FAQs about Leptospira Vaccine
Nobivac L4 is a vaccine available as a suspension for injection. It contains four inactivated (killed) strains of Leptospira bacteria.
Our Nobivac L4 vaccine is charged at P250/shot.
Nobivac L4 contains 4 common lepto strains:
1. Leptospira interrogans serogroup Canicola serovar Portland-vere
2. Leptospira interrogans serogroup Icterohaemorrhagiae serovar Copenhagi
4. Leptospira interrogans serogroup Australis serovar Bartislava
3. Leptospira kirscheneri serogroup Grippotyphosa serovar Dadas
Lepstopira vaccine is specifically a bacterin, a vaccine that contains killed bacteria to confer protection.
Unlike viral vaccines (parvo, distemper), bacterins do not confer cross-protection. A single strain of lepto only protects your pet from that specific strain, and not from other strains.
That is why MSD produced a lepto vaccine with the 4 most common lepto strains to give your pet an optimal protection against this disease.
Unlike viral vaccines which can provide years of protection, a bacterin (such as the lepto vaccine) can only protect your pet for at most 12 months.
Yes. Leptospirosis is very fatal in dogs. And not only that, it can also transfer from dogs to humans (zoonotic disease). That is why you need to give your pet a shot of Nobivac L4 to protect both you and your pet from leptospirosis.
In high-risk areas (plenty of rats or mice), lepto shots are recommended to be given every 6 to 9 months.
Yes, it is included.
Our regular 5n1 vaccine has 2 lepto strains.
Our special 5n1 vaccine has 4 lepto strains.
However, a 5n1 vaccine can only be given yearly or every 3 years in adult dogs.
Dogs in high-risk areas (plenty of rats or mice) need to be given lepto shots every 6 to 9 months.
It is not advisable to give 5n1 vaccines every 6 to 9 months just for the sake of lepto.
That is why MSD produced Nobivac L4, an exclusive mixture of leptospira strains, that can be given separately from parvo & distemper shots.
Yes. It is safe for pregnant dogs.
A mild and temporary increase in body temperature may occur for a few days after vaccination, with some puppies showing less activity and/or a reduced appetite. A small, temporary swelling may occur at the injection site, which will either disappear or reduce in size within two weeks after vaccination. An occasional temporary, acute (short-term) hypersensitivity (allergic) reaction may occur.
Lepstopira is contracted from urine of rats or mice.
If your place has plenty of rodents, then your pet is in a high-risk area.
If your place is always flooded, then consider yourself living in a high-risk area because flood water commonly carry urine from rats or mice.
