Weather changes can make pets sleepier, less active, or a little more reluctant to move around. But here’s the important part: not every change is just because of the weather.
- A cough that keeps coming back.
- Breathing that looks faster or more effortful.
- Getting tired sooner during walks.
- Restlessness at night.
- Less interest in play.
- Pausing more often on stairs.
- Or suddenly preferring to sit and watch instead of joining the action.
These can look like small changes at first—and that is exactly why they are easy to ignore.
For some pets, these signs may point to a heart or circulation problem. Cardiac disease does not always begin with a dramatic collapse or obvious emergency. Sometimes, it starts quietly, with changes in breathing, stamina, sleep, or activity that only a very observant pet parent notices.
And no, this does not mean every coughing or tired pet has heart disease. Respiratory problems, pain, anemia, infection, obesity, and other conditions can cause similar signs. That is why proper veterinary evaluation matters.
At AVCI, our veterinarians can assess your pet and determine what is appropriate based on the findings. Depending on the case, evaluation may include physical examination, blood pressure measurement, ECG, X-rays, laboratory tests, or other diagnostics when indicated.
So if your pet suddenly seems to have “less battery life” than usual, do not simply wait for the weather to change again.
Visit AVCI and have the change checked early.
Sometimes, catching a small sign early gives us a much better chance to understand what is happening before it becomes a bigger problem.
